Larder & Light

Food, drink and restaurant photography made in natural light — menus, cookbooks, product and editorial. A running archive of recent shoots below, available for commissions and collaborations wherever there's a good window and a great kitchen.

The Gallery

A running archive of recent shoots — menus, cookbook stories, drinks and product work — plated the way dishes arrive at the pass. No grid to fight against, just photographs given room to breathe. Click any image to open the full shoot.

Approach

How I work

Three principles shape every food commission, from the first message to the final files. They're the reason kitchens come back — and the reason the pictures still make people hungry a year later.

Natural light first

Food looks most appetising in honest daylight, so that's where I start — soft window light, real shadows, steam that reads as warm rather than staged. When a dark dining room needs help I'll shape a little continuous light to match, never a hard flash that flattens the plate.

Styled to sell

I work with a full prop and surface library — linens, ceramics, weathered boards, glassware and cutlery — plus on-set food styling that keeps dishes looking freshly plated through every frame. Bring a chef and we'll plate together; come without one and I'll handle the styling end to end.

Fast menu turnaround

Menus and delivery apps can't wait a fortnight. A private online gallery of edited, web- and print-ready images arrives within five business days — often next morning for a single-session menu shoot — with a plain-language license and one point of contact throughout.

Process

From first message to final files

From tasting menu to final gallery, here's how a restaurant shoot comes together.

  1. 01

    Say hello

Send a short note through the booking form describing the project — the dishes or drinks, how many, where the images will run (menu, delivery app, cookbook, campaign), and roughly when. I reply within two business days with availability and an honest, itemised quote. There's no obligation at this stage.

  2. 02

    Plan the shoot

Once we're agreed, we settle the details together: a shot list built dish by dish, prop and surface direction, the running order that keeps hot food hot, and whether we shoot at your restaurant or in the daylight studio. A small deposit holds the date, and for editorial or campaign work I'll build a short moodboard so we're seeing the same table before the day arrives.

  3. 03

    Shoot day

Dishes come out in a planned order so nothing wilts, melts or dries under the lights. I tether to a laptop so you — or your chef — can approve every plate full-size as we go, adjusting a garnish or a pour on the spot. Most menu sessions cover twelve to twenty dishes in a day; editorial stories run more slowly, by design.

  4. 04

    Delivery

Within five business days you receive a private online gallery of fully edited, high-resolution images — sized for menus, delivery apps, social and print — yours to download and use under a clear license. Extra retouching, alternate crops and CMYK exports are available whenever you need them.

Good to know

Frequently asked

Either works. For restaurant menus your kitchen usually plates while I direct and style the final frame; for product, packaging and editorial I bring a food stylist and handle everything from prep to garnish. Tell me which suits you and it's built into the quote.

Kind words

What kitchens & brands say

Our new menu photos lifted delivery-app orders noticeably in the first month. The dishes finally look the way they taste — glossy, warm, never plasticky. And every plate was shot and approved before it left the pass.
Chef Seo-yeon P.·Head chef, Hansang Table
We shot a full cookbook over four days and never once felt rushed. The natural-light stories hold together as a book, not a pile of stock shots. Art direction, styling and delivery were all handled without hand-holding.
Minseo K.·Publisher, Namu Editions
Hired the studio for a drinks campaign and got images that actually looked like our label instead of a stock library. Calm on set, brilliant with condensation and pour shots, and early on delivery.
